India’s most popular leader and our prime minister, Shri Narendra Modi, inaugurates the Noida International Airport today, March 31st, 2026.
In fact, the very phase of this mega project is opened today, and PM hails the project as the airport as the “symbol of India’s new spirit”.
Airport Developed on a PPP Model:
Adhering to the concept of Public Private Partnership and as per the estimate, it has sucked around 11,200 crore INR.
The exact location is Jewar, which is in Uttar Pradesh, a state in the northern part of India.
The underlying ambition is to broaden the aviation capacity in the area and to strengthen the link with cities like Agra, Mathura, Meerut, etc.
The state is already boastful of having numerous airports, and this one adds another chunk of gloss to it, which will secure more investment in infrastructure development and in a world-class transport ecosystem, too.
PM spoke to the media on the occasion, “Today, we are beginning a new chapter of the Viksit Uttar Pradesh, Viksit Bharat campaign.”
He opined that with the airport in Jewar, the aforementioned cities will draw a lion’s share of benefit, and the farmers and commoners will also view strong possibilities.
Filled with spirits, he further spoke, “I was fortunate to lay the foundation stone of this airport, and now I am also fortunate to inaugurate it. But I have shared this privilege with all of you. Today, we are beginning a new chapter of the Viksit Uttar Pradesh, Viksit Bharat campaign. The country’s largest state has today become one of the states with the highest number of international airports in the nation.”
Other than the airport, a section is also reserved for the MRO purpose, I.e. Maintenance, repair and overhaul.
Further, PM Modi also accentuated upon ways India judiciously confronts the energy crisis and supply chain disruptions which are caused by the ongoing war in West Asia.
Evidently, there will be a tremendous emphasis on the practice of aircraft service in India. At present, most of such work is being done outside the country.
A Project Stuck for long, Finally Gets Wings:
There were numerous roadblocks for the airport project, and it was initially meant to be opened in 2024.24.ed in 2024. The greenfield project is on, and it is an exponent of aviation infrastructure advancements which India has given space to, in the present times.
The overarching objective is to lessen the strain on Indira Gandhi International Airport with Jewar as a major aviation jewel in northern India.
The project would be completed in subsequent stages, and the cost would further rise to Rs. 29,560 crore.
Authorities Grant Clearance:
Earlier this month, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation cleared the path for an aerodrome license, which is a significant milestone achieved.
Officials argued that the license is a formal attestation to the airport’s compliance with operational guidelines and safety requirements, and this certification removed the last hurdle, facilitating flight take-offs as well as the other flying operations.
When will the Take-offs take off?
Plans are bright for domestic passenger and freight operations, and as the aerodrome license is already obtained, not much time will be spent.
Now, once the clearance from DGCA is received, operations will start within 45 days, and officials affirm that the clearance was sought on March 6, 2026. Henceforth, it is likely to begin soon.
Crucial Role in Delhi Aviation as well as the Region’s:
The airport is slated to function in parallel to Delhi’s IGI airport, as the underlying ambition of the wider air framework is worked upon.
Which of the cities will welcome the landings from here, initially?
No routes have been specified till now but the domestic connectivity will be ensured with cities of Mumbai, Lucknow, Bengluru and Hyderabad will be air linked.
But here, prior to further expansion, metro routes will be focused upon.
When was the idea perceived ?
The airport project was tabled in 2003, when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the Prime Minister.
What is the location considered strategic?
As for the location, it has been painstakingly pinpointed, for it lies near a freight corridor and just in the vicinity of a large logistics hub.
As such, there is highly likely to be the major boost to the goods movement on land as well as in the air.
