Renewable Sources of Energy
In the backdrop of the Iran-US war, the country’s structural fragility is now known and badly realised. As a fallout, India boosts renewable push to keep the wheel of economy and society rolling ahead and also to bring about a robust immunity cover amid gas supply disruptions.
Energy is Sufficient, Government Claims So:
Authorities react positively to India’s energy supply chain and state that it is very robust and stable. Such a supply stream is supplemented by enhanced output from refineries and adequate stockpiles, while the demand graph is calibrated.ed.
However, closure of the Strait of Hormuz is still worrisome.
Gas Supply Has Been Hugely Affected:
Currently, due to the Middle East conflict, over 20% of gas supply has been severely disrupted, significantly impacting dependent economies.
In the case of India, every time any such major event unfolds anywhere in the world, our trade deficit widens, prices soar, and fiscal intervention is carried out as a remedial measure.
But here, the central point is that the Indian economy is tightly tied to fuels whose supply and availability are beyond our easy reach.
Red Sight Now A Relief: Small LPG Cylinders Win Hearts:
Even though colour red symbolises danger, here, the red shade of small LPG cylinders has been a relief.
An official report confirms that small 5Kg free-trade LPG (FTL) cylinders have surged in popularity: 71,000 units were purchased in a single day, with a record 570,000 distributed since March 23, 2026.
To avail such cylinders, consumers need to establish their valid ID, while no address proof is needed, and LPG distributors are given the responsibility to provide such cylinders.
Hoarding and Black Marketing are under the lens:
No doubt, the government is relentless in making efforts to check stockpiling and black marketing and in a single day alone, over 3000 raids have been carried out.
So far, to put a check on distribution, public sector oil marketing organisations (OMCs) have issued suspension orders for 27 distributors, while another 1000 have been issued show-cause notices.
Further, home consumption, alongside certain vital areas such as educational institutions and hospitals have been at the top of the most important list for the Indian government. Now to sustain a consistent supply, commercial LPG allocation has been capped at 70% of what was enjoyed earlier before the crisis began.
The government also issued a statement which said, “The government is making all efforts to ensure the availability of petrol, diesel, and LPG, and citizens are advised to avoid panic purchase of Petrol and Diesel as well as unnecessary booking of LPG.”
Fuel Alternatives Are Advised:
Besides, in the face of a crisis, authorities emphasise that citizens should look for other fuel options as well, such as piped natural gas (PNG), induction, and handy electric cooking solutions.
People should also harp upon official news and should adhere to energy conservation practices.
March Month Witnessed Voluminous Connections:
In the the previous month alone, 3.5 lakh new connections were gasified, and over 3.8 lakh new customers registered.se has seen a rapid growth.
Also, clear instructions are given to the gas distribution agencies in the city to cater to the gas connection needs of commercial establishments, such as restaurants and hotels.
Here, the industrial sector also records an increase in gas supplies.
From today onwards, I.e. April 6th, 2026, fertilizer plants are likely to get almost 90% hike in the supply of their six month use on an average while as of now, they get only 70% to 75% of it.
Beyond this, for commercial and industrial units, they will get another 10% increase in supply, as per the roadmap.
Global Events Inflame Crisis To LPG Supply:
The geopolitical situation put strain on the domestic LPG supply unabated, but then distributorships still function on a big scale.
In the past one day alone, 51 lakh deliveries of LPG cylinders were made to homes, which also saw a 95% hike in online reservations, and delivery compliance rose dramatically to 89%.
In the case of crude and refining, domestic LPG production is scaled up to match the demand, and all the refineries are functional at full capacity with adequate inventories.
The government puts efforts on its end by reducing excise taxes on gasoline and diesel, and such reduction is by Rs 10 per litre. This is all done to protect consumers from rising crude costs worldwide.
Further, in a bid to ensure ample supply locally, export taxes have surfaced, which are at Rs. 21.5 per litre on petrol and Rs 29.50 per litre on aviation turbine fuel (ATF).
Maritime activities are said to be stable as Green Sanvi, the LPG ship, has been able to sail through the Strait of Hormuz recently and has delivered us 46,650 metric tonnes of cargo.
It is estimated that 17 ships with the tricolour Indian flag are still in the Persian Gulf with a total of 460 seamen on board, and our agencies are keeping vigil on their safety.
The control room has been set up, and the Directorate General of Shipping has taken over 5000 calls and has checked over 10,000 emails in the past few days while expediting the return of over 1320 Indian sailors, among whom 190 have been brought back in the past day.
Indian missions in the Middle East still operate round-the-clock hotlines, and Indians there are helped with quick travels, visas and wartime assistance as there is a big bloody war taking place out there.
Despite airspace constraints, over 6.75 lakh people boarded the planes taking off from the region and flying to India since February 28.
In the final lap, the administration strongly asserts that fuel supplies are sufficient and asks commoners not to panic. Further, states are told to enhance vigilance, combat misinformation and ensure that all the necessities are delivered with full-fledged efficiency.
