And if they want to make any improvement, they can test it online, before they do it on the ground. And then replicate that to all the plants around the world.”

So, out of the 42,000engineers we have, about 24,000 are software engineers, and a fourth of that is in India.
Mr Sunil Mathur rules out sustainability without digitalization, as he records, ”There’s no decarbonization, nor sustainability without digitalization. If you’re not digitalized, you will never know, for example, how much CO2 a smartphone creates over its lifetime. In production, you need to know about everything that goes inside – glass, microprocessor, plastics- and everybody has to collect the data and not just you yourself on your line of chai, but also along the value chain. Doing this manually is just impossible.
